People love to say that reality tv is evil, and they feel good saying it. When someone goes "Oh, look what this world is coming to" they are always being condescending of the unwashed masses that are reality tv fans, and these are the people who feel that NPR is much more edifying. (You know how I feel about NPR.) I think I could make a valid case that NPR and reality tv are pretty much one and the same. The same civic-minded types who listen to NPR will also invariably tell you that they love to people-watch. Oh, they love to go to the park or the airport or bus stop and watch the people and how they interact with and respond to each other but they'll also tell you that reality tv is from the pit of hell, when really, I think watching something scripted is dumber than watching real life un-scripted stuff going on. Scripted shows have just been around forever and are therefore more palatable by the civic-minded kill-your-television demographic. There is a case to be made that reality tv is not always unscripted, but I wont entertain that right now.

I have another weed to pull. Audra and I were talking about how Elijah Wood is the so completely irritating, he's so earnest and perky with his big wide eyes and his acting which consists of vague ballpark estimates of human emotion. In interviews he always shows off his Hobbit ankle tattoo which in my opinion is cousins with the ubiquitous dolphin-on-the-ankle tattoo. I hate all that Hobbit shit, on top of it - it is so much dumber than the ignorant depths to which reality tv could ever plummet.
