My parents are talking about how the sniper kid only got a life sentence and a fine. I said I can't believe they're against gun control when they freak out about the evil shootings. (I didn't add that I can't believe they go on and on about how someone deserves to die when they're Christians - not only Christians, but missionaries.) My mom raised her voice and said "It's not the guns, it's the people!" And I said, "Sure it's the guns, combined with the crazy people out there." She said "You need to learn from history" and I said "You need to work in an emergency room and see what kinds of gunshot victims come in there, and then you'd be for gun control too" and she said "Yeah, I'm stupid. Stupid stupid stupid" and I said "Not so much stupid as ignorant." Now she's mad. Whatever. I just don't like having to worry about getting shot all the time. Whenever I change lanes in traffic I always brace myself for a bullet through my head. Mom said "When did that happen, besides in the movies?" It happens all the time, she just has no idea. I'm all for socialism. Now I'm appropriately pissed off and disgruntled, as any holiday with family demands. I won't even tell you about the lively family banter about Rush Limbaugh this morning. My parents sold my piano today. When they told me they were selling it I lost my shit, started freaking out and crying because that was the piano I learned on and spent 12 years practicing on and taught lessons on in college. I sound better on that piano than any piano anywhere and am deeply sentimental about it, for what reason I'm not sure but I just am.
